The Texas Future Problem Solving Program (FPSP) is an affiliate member of the Future Problem Solving Program International (FPSPI), which was founded by creativity pioneer Dr. E. Paul Torrance to stimulate critical and creative thinking skills. The program challenges students to develop a vision for the future, and engage students in leadership roles. Both the Texas FPSP and the FPSPI engage students in creative problem solving within the curriculum and provide competitive opportunities.
This program utilizes Dr. Torrance's six step model of problem solving:
1. Brainstorming possible solutions.
2. Identifying an underlying problem.
3. Brainstorming alternative solutions.
4. Choosing criteria.
5. Evaluating solutions.
6. Develop an action plan.
Students compete in each component in the following age groups:
Junior Division: grades 4-6
